# The sidebar

> Recents, Starred, the folder tree, Tags and the Shelf, and everything in the right-click menus.

The sidebar is the library. ⌘S (or ⌘, or the button in its header) hides and shows it; drag its edge to resize it. From top to bottom:

**The wordmark** and the hide button.

**Search** — ⌘F from anywhere. See [search](/library/search).

**Three rows**, numbered so the left hand can reach them while the right is on the mouse: **All Documents** (⌘1), **Timelapse** (⌘2) and **New Document** (⌘3). The first two also answer to ⌘P and ⌘D, the third to ⌘N.

**Recents** — the six documents you opened most recently, newest first.

**Starred** — documents you have starred, from the right-click menu. The section appears when there is at least one.

**Documents** — the folder tree, with a count. It starts collapsed on a fresh install, because All Documents is the better way to browse and the sidebar stays calmer without it; open it once and it stays open. Hovering a folder swaps its count for a **+** that makes a new document inside it; the arrows button in the header sorts everything by last edited, name or date created. Folders remember whether they are expanded.

**Shelf** — documents [set aside](/library/shelf), collapsed, with a count. Present only when something is on it.

**Tags** — every `#tag` in the library with a count. Click one to filter; the [tags page](/editor/links-and-tags#tags) explains.

**The footer** — the library folder's name, the number of documents, and a gear for Settings.

Hover any document row for a moment and the time it was last edited appears.

## Right-click on a document

## Right-click on a folder

New Document Here, New Subfolder…, Rename…, Reveal in Finder, Shelve (the whole folder, structure intact), and Move to Trash.

## Undo

⌘Z undoes text edits first. When the editor has nothing left to undo, the same key reaches the library's own history: a document you created by accident, a rename, a move, a duplicate, a trip to the Trash, a shelving. ⇧⌘Z redoes.

## Small things

Rows slide in and out as documents come and go — a new one, a shelved one, a search that ends. Counts tick between values rather than flashing. Stars spring in. The search field brightens while it has the keyboard.
