All Documents: the library laid out as cards with rendered previews
⌘1, ⌘P, the grid row at the top of the sidebar, Esc from the editor, or automatically when nothing is open. Every document that is not on the Shelf becomes a card with its title and a small rendered preview of its first lines, Craft-style. Cards fall into columns shortest-first so the wall stays level, and the document currently open wears a thin accent outline.

Moving around

Clicking a card opens it, and the card grows into the page: a matched-geometry plate that takes the card’s frame and expands to the editor, then fades. Going back with Esc runs the same film in reverse — the page shrinks into its card. (A note opened from Timelapse shrinks back into its day there instead.) Under Reduce Motion both are instant.

Sorting

The arrows button in the header (and in the sidebar’s Documents header, and the ⌘K command bar) sorts by Last edited, Name, Date created or Your order. The sort applies to the sidebar as well.

Your order

Press on a card and move: it lifts under the pointer, a little larger and with a shadow, and travels with it. The column it left closes up under it; the column under the pointer opens a gap for it at the nearest place, with a spring, and a dashed plate marks the gap. Let go and the card glides into it. Nothing else moves — except at the foot of the wall, which stays level: when a column has grown too tall, the card at its very foot crosses to the shortest. Carry a card to the top or bottom edge and the wall scrolls. The order you make this way is the library’s Your order: the arrows button switches to it the moment you drag, from whatever sort was showing — nothing else moves, only the card you carried — and remembers it. It is one order for the whole library: the sidebar’s folders show their part of it, and a row dragged in the sidebar moves the card here. A new document goes to the top until you place it. ⌘Z takes a drag back. Cards can be carried only on the whole wall. With a search, a tag or a day showing, a card is a button, as before.

Searching and filtering

The search field lives in the header here. ⌘F glides it to the middle of the window and gives it the keyboard, and the wall filters live as you type; the top result is selected, so Return opens it. A tag chosen in the sidebar filters the wall too, and the tag’s name appears in the header with a ⓧ to clear it. The search page has the details.

A day’s wall

A day clicked in the sidebar’s calendar — or a day’s name in the Timelapse — narrows the wall to that day: every document made or last edited then, the day’s note first, with the day’s name in the header, a ⓧ beside it, and a capsule that opens the day’s note or starts one. A day with nothing written on it says so and still offers the note. Esc, the ⓧ, ⌘1 or ⌘F bring the whole library back; the calendar stays in the sidebar, so the next day is a click away.

The right-click menu

Open, Open in Review, Star, Rename…, Duplicate, Copy as Markdown, Copy as Rich Text, Move To (any folder, or the top level), Shelve, Reveal in Finder, and Move to Trash. It is the same menu the sidebar offers, plus the two ways to open.

Small things

Cards arrive in a soft cascade when the wall appears, lift slightly on hover, dip while pressed, and their stars spring in. Only the cards in and around the visible stretch of the wall are built; the rest are their measured places, so a library of hundreds scrolls as a wall of thirty does. A library with nothing in it shows a leaf and a New Document button; a search with no matches says so.
