Settings, the Caret section: a caret gliding along a line of specimen text above the movement, look and idle settings
⌘, or Glassine → Settings…, or the gear at the bottom of the sidebar. Settings open as a card over the window rather than in a window of their own, so everything you change is visible behind it as you change it. A rail down the left lists the sections — Library; Type, Caret, Modes and Typing; Look; About — and the section you were on is the one you come back to. ⇥ and ⇧⇥ move between sections; Esc closes the card. Find a setting at the top of the rail searches all of them: type blink and the rail keeps only the sections with something to show, the card turns to the first of them, and the rows that match light up while the rest step back. ⌘F puts the keyboard there; Esc clears it. ⌘Z takes back the last change while the card is open, and ⇧⌘Z puts it back — whichever section it was in, and changes made from the View menu or the command bar too. A slider dragged or a colour picked is one step, not a hundred. A row whose value is not the default shows a small ↺ when the pointer is over it; that puts the one setting back. The Type section shows a piece of page set in the current type, and the Caret section a line with the caret gliding along it, blinking and shaped as it is set — so a setting shows what it does before you look behind the card.

Library

Location — where the library is, with Reveal in Finder, Change… to pick another folder, and Use iCloud Drive to return to the default. A line beneath says whether the folder syncs. Sync — the library kept in a private GitHub repository of yours, for a Mac you’d rather not sign into iCloud on, and for a history of every note. Connect… takes a repository and a token (or, once Glassine is registered for it, a sign-in on github.com with a code); connected, the panel shows the repository, how the sync stands, Sync Now and Disconnect. Off until you connect. See sync with GitHub. Files Saving — a note that nothing needs saving: changes are written about half a second after you stop typing and at least every few seconds while you type.

About

The version you are running. In the direct version, Check for new versions once a day (on) and a Check for Updates… button; the App Store version says updates arrive through the App Store. Links to this manual, the changelog, the website and the source; the shortcut sheet; and Restore defaults, which puts every setting back to how it came — the look too — and which ⌘Z takes back.

Not in Settings

A few things are remembered without a switch here: whether the window floats on top (⌘.), the sidebar’s width and whether it is showing, which folders are expanded, the six most recent documents, starred documents, the window’s size and position, the Review style and its text scale, and the last document open, which reopens at launch.
